The day before a race plays into the performance of the event (so I am told). We took our 3.5 hour journey early topping up only on fruit and the odd vege crisp and arriving just in time to do a conference telephone call. After work is complete it’s time to carb up!
Decided on a variety of curries with rice to sufficiently carb up with a good dose of protein. I didn’t measure today, I just ate until I went slightly past my comfort and completely stopped at 8pm to give enough time to relax
After a solidish (2 kids) night sleep, I awake to see the pouring of 1 degree C rain outside. GREAT!
Me and my fellow crazies wrapped up as warm as possible after trying to research what to wear to keep dry (black sacks until the race starts is good idea), a banana, berry and OJ smoothie and we are out the door an hour before it starts
10 minutes before the gun, I knocked back a energy gel… risky as I have never tried one before.

Although I am sure it would have been an amazing view from start to finish, we had a icey cold wind, rain and then snow. It was still a good run with some small gradient hills and a good number of water stations.
Half way time 1:01
Finish Time 2:04:14
499th out of 1015
I am happy enough with this but it wasn’t the aimed sub 2 hours. Therefore we have to train harder and do it again 🙂
